My 5 Core Health Coaching Philosophies
1. Self-Love Leads the Way!
Self-Love is the main pillar of my Health Coaching philosophy. I believe that when we truly love ourselves, we are able to fulfill our dreams, uplift everyone around us, and give back to the world in a meaningful and impactful way. Self-Love is specifically important for your health, because when you love yourself, you also trust yourself. When you trust yourself you are able to make decisions that serve you whether that’s what you eat for lunch, knowing when to rest, or making a career change. Self trust, allows you to dismantle all the noise out there telling you exactly what to eat, what to wear, how to workout, how to look, and what to like. Self trust teaches you to listen to your body, your intuition, and your internal wisdom. It works like a muscle, and the more you practice using it, the stronger, and louder it becomes. When we work together, we will evaluate your feelings of Self-Love, and devise individual strategies you can use to strengthen this part of yourself.
2. Health is Like a Long-Term Relationship, Don’t Move too Fast.
I believe in helping you create long lasting, sustainable change in your life. I do not subscribe to the mentality that you have to overhaul your entire life in one week to achieve optimal wellness. In my own experience, I have seen that making drastic changes overnight are a setup for failure. Unfortunately, I have also seen that the main messages out there are something like this: “just workout 8 hours a day! Quit your job and travel the world! Eat 500 calories a day!” Change is scary enough, and hearing these kind of messages makes it 10x worse. Not only that, but they are extremely disempowering. They externalize the expertise on your health. I am focused on making YOU the expert in your own life, and empowering you to learn what’s best for you. I will work with you to make incremental adjustments and changes that are suitable for you according to your lifestyle, personality, and individual needs. Additionally, we will work together to create tools that you can always access that allow you to reconnect with your own power, and make your own decisions in the long run.
3. Health Happens on and off the Plate: Primary + Secondary Food*
I have a holistic approach to Health Coaching. I use the concept of Primary and Secondary food when working with my clients to evaluate their health from every angle. Primary food is anything in your life that you do not consume through your mouth. It includes your career, your relationships, physical activity, spirituality, and more. Secondary food on the other hand, includes everything that you eat or drink. We will work together to look at your personal relationship with both Primary and Secondary food, and learn how they influence one another in your life. We will work to balance out any area that needs attention. If you would like to learn more about Primary and Secondary Food please see this post.
4. Everyone is Unique: Bio-Individuality
Bio-Individuality is the idea that each person is unique, and that there is no one size-fits-all approach to health. This means that what works for your neighbor, your co-worker, or even your favorite celebrity, may not work for you. I will work with you to find what benefits your body, mind, and spirit the most, on and off the plate. If you would like to learn more about Bio-Individuality please see this post.
5. Positivity, and Enthusiasm are Stronger than a Bootcamp Officer
Last but not least, I believe that we make healthy changes that stick when we are acknowledged for our achievements, and are given positive reinforcement. I have to brag for one second here, and tell you that I am one of the most enthusiastic people I know. It is the number one trait that shows up on every personality test I have ever taken, and it is something that would love to share with you on your health journey. I am not afraid to be honest with you, or to go deep in our coaching sessions, but I will never discourage you, raise my voice at you like a boot camp officer, or shame you for what you are doing “wrong.” I will celebrate every win with you no matter how “small,” extend my empathy when challenges arise, and keep cheering you on in your journey!
